After a long gap, Orissa`s International Master Swayangsu Satyapragyan has been selected in the Indian team for two international chess tournaments to be held in Australia during April this year.
According to communications received from All India Chess Federation (AICF), the National men’s and women’s teams, comprising six players each, would compete in the Doeberl Cup in Canberra (April 9 to 13) and Sydney International Open in Parramatta (April 15 to 19).
As many as 78 players, including nine Grandmasters, 11 International Masters, four Woman Grandmasters and one Woman International Master have confirmed their participation in the nine-round Sydney event.
According to Australian Chess Enterprises (ACE) General Manager Brian Jones, the Sydney tournament offers a total prize of 16,500 dollars, which includes 5,000 dollars for the winner.
Other five players of the Indian men’s squad inlcude Neelotpal Das, Deepan Chakravarthy, Sriram Jha, K Rathnakaran and Akshayaraj Kore. Eesha Karavade, Kruttika Nadig, Swati Ghate, Nisha Mohta, Bhakti Kulkarni and Amrutha Mokal have formed the women’s squad.
According to ACE website chessaustralia.com.au, four more Indian players have entered the tournaments on individual capacity. They include Avijit Kunte, Deep Sengupta, Saptarshi Roy Chowdhury and Pon N Krithika.
